1. Insert a floppy
A free floppy arrives every 10 minutes. They stack up to 5 in your stock; once it’s full, the timer stops, so come back before then. New players start with a full stock.
Each floppy holds 5 different repos. Each one is pulled at random, independently of the others: no floppy is guaranteed, and none can be bought.
The odds for every tier are published on the Floppy odds page.
2. Read the card
Every card is a repo’s profile: its owner, description, language, stars, forks and license, with a pixel illustration drawn from its identifier. From the card, a link opens the repo on GitHub.
3. Organize your drive
The repos you pull are copied to your drive. File them into folders (up to 50), find them by owner and put your favorites in your profile showcase.
Compile collections
An owner’s repos make up their collection, which fills up one repo at a time. Once you own all of its repos, you can compile it: it becomes a trophy and earns XP and bytes, 20 B plus 1 B per repo for a collection, 10 B plus 1 B per repo for a small collection.
The watchlist
On a card or a repo page, add a repo you’re hunting for to your watchlist: it sorts them into lists, one per owner (up to 20 lists). When a floppy brings you one, a “Wanted!” stamp flags it.
4. Recycle
Recycling takes back any copy, even your last one, for 1 B, whatever its tier: it’s how you free up space. A rare card is worth far more at auction or in a trade with another player.
Auctions on the BBS
From level 5, put your cards up for auction on the BBS for other players. There’s no fixed price: you pick a starting price and a duration, from 30 minutes to 24 hours, and the highest bid wins the card. A bid in the last 10 seconds resets the countdown to 1 minute. There are no fees: the seller gets the full final price, and everything is paid in bytes.
Trades between friends
From level 5, propose a trade to a friend: up to 10 cards on each side, no bytes. It doesn’t have to be balanced: you can even give a card away and ask for nothing. Your friend accepts, declines or counters; with no answer, the offer expires after 72 hours.
Cron jobs, streaks and levels
Every day, 3 daily cron jobs, and every week 3 weekly ones, earn you XP: insert floppies, find new repos, compile a collection. Play several days in a row and your streak grows, which earns XP too. XP raises your level: level 5 unlocks the BBS and trades, and pays out 50 B, once.
The golden rule: no real money
Bytes, the in-game currency, can never be converted into money. No floppy, card or byte is ever sold for real money: you earn everything by playing.
